Windows 95/98 & Driver Installation Procedures for FM8500V

Along with the system you may have received either a driver CD or Diskette. Use appropriate media when
indicated.

AUDIO
Windows 98SE

1. Right click My Computer, then Properties.
2. Click Hardware, then Device Manager.
3. Double click Multimedia Audio Controller in Other devices.
4. Click Driver, then Update driver.
5. Click "Next" on the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard screen.
6. With Search for a better driver than the one your device selected, click "Next".
7. Select Specify a location and type D:\driver\audio\w98 in the empty box.
8. Click "Next".
9. Click "Next" on the Update Device Driver Wizard screen.
10. Windows will find ESS Allegro-1 Device Manager as the update driver.
11. Click "Next".
12. Insert Windows 98SE CD as instructed.
13. Click "Finish" and restart Windows.


Windows 2000
1. Right click My Computer, then Properties.
2. Click Hardware, then Device Manager.
3. Double click Multimedia Audio Controller in Other devices.
4. Click Driver, then Update driver.
5. Click "Next" on the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard screen.
6. Click "Next" again.
7. With locations of Floppy drive and CD-ROM drive selected, click "Next".
8. Click "Yes" on the Digital Signature Not Found screen.
9. Windows will find ESS Allegro PCI Audio (WDM) as the updated driver.
10. Click "Finish".
11. Restart Computer.

VIDEO
Windows 98SE
1. Insert the Notebook PC CD in the CD ROM drive.
2. Click "Start", then click "Run".
3. Type in "D:\video\Win9x\Setup.exe" in the Open: box.
4. Click "OK".

     You will see the following message if DirectX7 is not installed.
     Click "OK" on the Severe screen to install the DirectX7.
     Click "Yes" on the Question screen to continue.

5. Click "Next" on the Welcome screen.
6. Click "Yes" after you read the agreement in the Software License Agreement screen.
7. Click "Finish" to restart the computer.
8. Click "Next" on Start Copying Files screen.
9. ATI Mobility 128 AGP (English) will be configured as the video driver.

Windows 2000
1. Insert the Notebook PC CD in the CD ROM drive.
2. Click "Start", then "Run".
3. Type in "D:\driver\video\w2k\Setup.exe" in the Open: box.
4. Click "OK".
5. Click "Next" on the Welcome screen.
6. Click "Yes" after you read the agreement in the Software License Agreement screen.
7. Click "Next" again.
8. Click "Yes" on the Digital Signature Not Found screen.
9. Windows will start copying the files.
10. Click "Yes" on the Digital Signature Not Found screen again.
11. Click "Finish" to restart Windows.
12. Click "Yes" on the Digital Signature Not Found screen.
13. ATI Mobility 128 AGP (English) will be configured as the video driver.

LAN
Windows 98
SE

1. Right Click "My Computer", then "Properties".
2. Click "Device Manager", then "Device Manager".
3. Double click PCI Simple Communication Controller in Other devices.
4. Click Driver, then Update driver.
5. Click "Next" on Update Device Driver Wizard screen.
6. With Search for a better driver selected, click "Next".
7. Type "d:\driver\lan\win98" in the empty box on Update Device Driver screen.
8. Click "Next".
9. Windows will find Realtek RTL8139 PCI Fast Ethernet as the updated driver.
10. Click "Next".
11. Insert Windows 98 CD as instructed. Click "OK".
12. Click "Finish" and restart the computer.
13. SiS900 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter will be installed under Device Manager Network adapter after installation.
14. Realtek RTL8139 PCI Fast Ethernet will be installed as the ethernet driver.

Modem
Windows 98SE

1. Right Click "My Computer", then "Properties".
2. Click Hardware, then Device Manager.
3. Double click PCI Simple Communication Controller in Other devices.
4. Click Driver, then Update driver.
5. Click "Next" on Update Device Driver Wizard screen.
6. With Search for a better driver selected, click "Next".
7. Type "d:\driver\modem\w98" in the empty box on Update Device Driver screen.
8. Click "Next".
9. Windows will find HAMR 5600 Voice Modem as the updated driver.
10. Click "Next".
11. Click "Finish".
12. HAMR 5600 Voice Modem will be installed as the MODEM driver.

Windows 2000
1. Right click My Computer, then Properties.
2. Click Hardware, then Device Manager.
3. Double click PCI Simple Communication Controller in Other devices.
4. Click Driver, then Update driver.
5. Click "Next" on the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard screen.
6. Click "Next" again.
7. With locations of Floppy drive and CD-ROM drive selected, click "Next".
8. Windows will find the updated driver HAMR 5600 Voice Modem. Click "Next".
9. Click "Yes" on the Digital Signature Not Found screen.
10. Click "Finish".
11. Restart computer.

Windows 98SE

1. Insert the Media Notebook PC CD in the CD ROM drive.
2. Click "Start", then "Run".
3. Type in "D:\driver\via\Setup.exe" in the Open: box.
4. Click "OK".
5. Click "Next" on the Welcome screen.
6. Click "Yes" after you read the agreement.
7. Click "Next" on ATAPI Vendor Support Driver 2.1.49 screen.
8. Click "Next" on IRQ Routing Driver 1.30 screen.
9. Click "Finish".

Windows 2000
1. Insert the Media Notebook PC CD in the CD ROM drive.
2. Click "Start", then "Run".
3. Type in "D:\driver\via\Setup.exe" in the Open: box.
4. Click "OK".
5. Click "Next" on the Welcome screen.
6. Click "Yes" after you read the agreement.
7. Click "Next" on Select Components screen.
8. Click "Next" on VIA_GART AGP Driver.
9. Click "Finish".
